Why this role matters: As a Software Engineer at Atlassian you will design, build, and maintain products that enable teams worldwide to collaborate effectively. You’ll work across the product lifecycle, contribute to system architecture, and help deliver high-quality, scalable solutions used by millions of users.



Key responsibilities:

• Design, implement, test, and maintain backend and/or frontend services and features.
  
  
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver high-impact functionality.
  
  
• Write clean, maintainable code and maintain engineering standards (code reviews, automated tests, CI/CD).
  
  
• Diagnose and resolve production issues, contribute to reliability, monitoring, and performance improvements.
  
  
• Contribute to architecture and roadmap discussions; propose pragmatic technical solutions.
  
  
• Mentor and support other engineers; contribute to a positive team culture and inclusive practices.
  
  

Basic qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  
  
• Strong programming skills in one or more languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go).
  
  
• Experience with modern web or services architectures (REST/GraphQL, microservices, cloud platforms).
  
  
• Familiarity with testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and software development best practices.
  
  
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  
  

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience building large-scale distributed systems or highly available SaaS products.
  
  
• Familiarity with Atlassian product ecosystem (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) or similar collaboration tools.
  
  
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  
  
• Strong experience with observability tooling (logging, tracing, metrics) and performance optimization.
  
  
• Proven track record of mentoring and leading technical initiatives.
